Limit orderGerman: Limit-Order

A limit order specifies the maximum purchase price or minimum selling price for a security.

In plain language

The order executes only at your limit or a better price. It may execute partially or not at all. Validity period, venue and available counterparties affect the outcome.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Let’s make it concrete

You set a buy limit of €50. Execution at €49.80 is possible; €50.20 is not. Without a matching offer, no purchase happens.

Simplified example for illustration.

Worth understanding

A limit controls price but does not guarantee execution. Check how long the order remains valid.
