DividendGerman: Dividende

A dividend is a distribution from a company to its shareholders, usually funded by profits.

In plain language

The amount and payment depend on company decisions and applicable rules. Dividends are not guaranteed. All else equal, the share price adjusts down by the distribution on the ex-dividend date.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Let’s make it concrete

With 20 shares and a €2 dividend per share, you receive €40 before taxes. The payout alone does not determine total return.

Simplified example for illustration.

Worth understanding

A dividend is not free extra money on top of unchanged company value. Consider distributions and price changes together.
